The Devils Daughter

Hermione sat on the bench down by the Black Lake, listening to the sounds of everyone celebrating the defeat of Voldemort. She couldn't understand how everyone could be so happy at that moment. So many people had died in the battle. Children who had no interest in being there died, people she considered friends had died and all they were doing were drinking and dancing and laughing in what remained of the once magnificent castle. Of course Hermione understood that in war there would be casualties, but she couldn't understand how everyone was okay with partying after so many had died, so she had left.

For hours she had walked around the school grounds, moving the bodies of the Death Eaters that had been left behind while every other person was brought into the school. She refused to leave their bodies outside to no doubt be scavenged by the creatures in the Forest. Even if they had been in alliance with the Dark Lord, they were still people and deserved to be respected in death. It was with that thought in mind that she brought all the bodies to the Womping Willow and placed multiple strong protection spells over them to prevent anyone or anything from disturbing them in their eternal rest.

Now, well past midnight, she sat alone looking out over the lake contemplating on what her next move would be. She wanted to go home. To go back to where she knew she would be safe from everything, but she needed to take care of something first. She just wasn’t sure on how to go about it now. Sighing in frustration, Hermione stood up effortlessly and cupped her hands together behind her back.

“I’ll be home soon Mother.” She whispered, her breath shining like spun silver on the wind, before turning sharply and making her way back up to the castle.
